Great for any Course Delivery Method
The Formula 4 Success program can be used successfully with any course delivery method. Students in traditional face-to-face classrooms, online and hybrid courses have all reported higher levels of the following in class evaluations:
- Ethical decision-making confidence.
- Engagement with entrepreneurial businesspeople (even though they were not in a traditional classroom).
- Deeper understanding of ethical challenges in different industries.
- Greater awareness of how ethical challenges arise.
- Development of their own management and leadership skills.
The Formula 4 Success video series is designed to share compelling stories and best practices on the topic of ethical leadership. Arkansas State University College of Business faculty developed online lessons and discussion board assignments that focused conversations and led students to interact about the challenges and opportunities in making ethical decisions across industries and at different stages of their professional lives.
The videos were initially shown as part of several senior level sales and marketing courses in 2018. Each of the videos is approximately fifteen minutes long which student surveys suggested was an ideal time. After each video, online students participated for two days in discussion board assignments that forced them to think about a variety of issues including what ethical lines the students would not cross and why they would not make an unethical decision even if it had immediate benefits for them personally or their organization. The students also submitted short writing assignments over each video and used them to help answer essay questions as part of the final exam in the course.
Student scores on multiple assessments (writing assignments, discussion boards, and exams) were significantly higher in the area of ethics for classes using the Formula 4 Success videos than they had been in previous semesters. Student feedback from classes using Formula 4 Success also produced the highest ratings the instructors had ever received on videos or guest speakers in an online class environment.
